Pleinair (full name Pleinair Allaprima[1]) is a recurring character in the Disgaea series. She is considered to be the mascot of Takehito Harada, the character designer of the Disgaea series and other Nippon Ichi games. Of course, Pleinair's also designed by him.

Background

Not much is known about Pleinair, and her role tends to vary from game to game. Outside of DLC and cameo appearances, she commonly appears as a news anchor or in charge of the Dark Assembly and similar facilities.

Appearance

Pleinair appears to be a young demon girl, though her age and race are not explicitly stated in any of her appearances. Her outfit consists of a short sleeveless white dress with red trim, white stockings, and a red ribbon around her neck similar to a tie. Pleinair's hair is short and light-blue in color, decorated with a red ribbon that resembles a pair of bunny ears.

In other artworks, she has occasionally been depicted with glasses.

Biography

Pleinair's history isn't as storied as other denizens of the Netherworld, but she has still played important roles in the tales of Disgaea's many protagonists, minor as they seem. Can't really get to the Dark Assembly yourself without someone to lead you there.

Disgaea: Hour of Darkness

During Laharl's journey to become Overlord, Pleinair was in charge of the Dark Assembly at the Overlord's Castle. She could be found in the castle's shop room, standing in front of the elevator leading to the Assembly.

Pleinair is also a playable character in HoD's ports on Nintendo DS and PC. She can be unlocked in Disgaea DS during New Game+ by selecting the blank option when you talk to her. In Disgaea PC, she is automatically unlocked at the start of the game.

Trivia

  • Pleinair's name is a reference to the French phrase en plein air, the act of painting outdoors. Her full name Pleinair Allaprima essentially translates to "drawing freely in the great outdoors".[citation needed]
